Bannana in Boston

Autor MR Martti Vallila
en Limba Engleză Paperback
The bombing of the Boston Marathon created a new link between Boston and Russia, original home of the bomber brothers. I had moved to Boston months prior to the April 15 bombing to open an East Coast office for Fuzzy Chip, a company commercializing the multi-value chip designs of Dr. Viktor Olexenko of Vladivostok in Russia's Far East, who recently moved to Crimea (just before it was occupied by Russia). I believed Boston to be an appropriate place in which to expand my efforts to commercialize "transformational technologies" from Russia, given the presence of world renown research facilities there. Early stage Russian technologies require validation in trusted western settings in order to be seriously considered by western investors and industrial partners. I considered the MIT link with Skolkovo (Moscow's attempt to create a "Russian Silicon Valley) a relationship that could be improved by a "bottom up" approach that true innovation requires. The "bottom up" initiative of Boston's citizens was instrumental in first identifying the bombers, and then cornering them in Watertown. Could getting funding for Fuzzy Chip for a technology that has the potential of dominating the next generation of chips in hand held devices, a multi-billion dollar opportunity, generate the "success story" a modernizing Russia is in need of? Will it demonstrate to the Boston entrepreneurial community the benefits of leveraging the comparative advantage I believe the region has, over Silicon Valley, in supporting early stage Russian technologies? The book tells the story of how I pursued funding for this "success story" in real time, tapping into local resources and networks. It also describes my discovery of numerous links between Boston and Russia that predate the bombing, and preparations I made in Boston for legal proceedings that I face as an accused "embezzler" in Finland. I attended the Whitey Bolger trial for an inside look at the criminal mind and the judicial process. Participating in a special grand jury in Boston gave me a look at the city's criminal present from the perspective of a convicted criminal in Finland. Found guilty of "embezzlement" there for paying myself a salary while running Buddha Biopharma Oy, a company I established in Finland to raise awareness in the west for a promising treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's and other age related neurological diseases. The story of this absurd reaction to my efforts is detailed in my other Bannana books: "Bannana in Russia" and "Bannana in the Legal Gulag." This book contains, in its appendix, descriptions of the disruptive technologies that are the foundation of both Buddha Biopharma and Fuzzy Chip, and can thus be viewed as a vehicle for informing the public about the promise of these Russian sourced technologies. The book should be of interest to anyone seeking advice, via example, on how to get early stage funding for a company based on strong intellectual property protection. The book describes the shoddy treatment I experienced in Finland's legal system, explaining my decision to incorporate Fuzzy Chip in Singapore and includes speculations about the future direction of Russia's innovation efforts, whether she looks East (to the Chinese development model) or West where intellectual property protection is the basis of value creation. The book is unfinished: awaiting resolution of legal issues in Finland, in the case of Buddha Biopharma, and awaiting investment, in the case of Fuzzy Chip. As these questions are resolved, chapters will be added, to complete this "Bannana book."
