When Maggie Marshall isn't dealing with the daily hijinks of her middle school students, she's usually dealing with other types of havoc...as a mother; as caregiver to five unruly dogs, three cats, and a convalescing gull; and, upon occasion, as an ad hoc detective.

When a dead body washes ashore on Children's Beach on the island of Nantucket, police call on Maggie to help them understand the connection between this recent murder and what appears to be a string of serial murders from the past.

Tagging along with Maggie is her steadfast sidekick, her unreliable, undeniably zany Aunt Amy, whose off-the-wall antics and random factoids about Nantucket history seem to throw a wrench in Maggie's investigation. While most folks write Aunt Amy off as nuttier than a fruitcake and tsk-tsk behind their hankies, she plays the half-baked daredevil, secretly working behind the scenes to unravel the riddles.
