Walter Beaumont, a nature-loving Midwestern teenager, has his destiny handed to him on a silver platter when his uncle invites him to come live in Alaska for the summer, in 1959. From the minute he arrives, Walter starts becoming the person he is meant to be, taught by his skookum uncle to be an extraordinary woodsman, a capable boatman, trapper, hunter and fisherman, aided by his natural abilities. He falls in love with a beautiful Native girl, but must join the army as he has promised his father, ending up in a special recon unit in the early days of Viet Nam. Wounded, he returns to Alaska just after the '64 Quake has wreaked incredible havoc, causing him great loss. His military training aids him in civilian life, and Alaska, his true home, helps to heal the mental and physical wounds he has su ered. He becomes a small boat builder, aids Alaska law enforcement as a tracker, is blessed with a sweet family life and eventually settles down to a peaceful existence in the only place where he'll ever be happy-Alaska.

Notă biografică

Warren Troy Extended Bio Born in New York State, Warren Troy has always been an avid outdoorsman. As a child, his favorite activity was spending time at the family cottage in the Catskill Mountains, exploring the forest and observing the wildlife -- the deer, bear and birds. When his family moved to Southern California, Warren directed his interest for the natural world to the desert, roaming that environment as enthusiastically as he used to traipse through the old eastern woods. The fulfillment of his passion for nature was when he moved to Alaska. He has had a love affair with the state ever since, enjoying the hunting, fishing, and amazing wilderness, ultimately homesteading up beyond the head of Kachemak Bay for five full years with his wife, Joyce. Warren Troy's deep connection with Alaska and his experiences there are the inspiration for the Alaska wilderness adventure books he has written, and he has become known for his work. Warren has this to say about his writing: ""I suppose you could say I am a late bloomer when it comes to writing novels. As a young man, I enjoyed writing short stories and poetry, but it wasn't until my late middle age that I was ready to write and publish actual books. ""It may be that it took me until I had a backlog of experience to rely on, so that my work contains what I feel is needed to write a good story, but at this point, I know it was Alaska itself, this incredible wild land that brought it out in me. ""It is gratifying to know my words are appreciated. I have received many positive reviews and reports from readers, the latest from a woman in Queensland, Australia. ""My first Alaska based book, Trails, received honorable mention in the Alaska Professional Communicators writing contest in 2011, as did my book, Jester: Memoirs of a Retired Hippie, in the 2014 San Francisco Book Festival Writing Competition in the fiction section. I also received second place for my short story, Ice in the Wind, which I entered in an Alaska Writers Guild contest. ""It brings me much pleasure when my stories are enjoyed by those who have read my books. To share my Alaska with others is my primary goal."" Warren and Joyce now live in a cabin in Willow, Alaska, seventy miles north of Anchorage, surrounded by spruce and birch, enjoying the flow of the seasons, living a peaceful life.
