Notă biografică
Hulas Singh completed his graduation in history from Ramjas College, University of Delhi, India, in 1979. He did his MA, MPhil and PhD in modern Indian history from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He joined the Indian Railway Personnel Service in 1986 and retired in 2018. He has all along been engaged in independent research and specialises in modern Indian intellectual history. His first book Rise of Reason: Intellectual History of 19th-Century Maharashtra is widely read and is prescribed in many universities. He has also published several articles.

This book is a critical comparative study of Jotirao Phule and Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, modern India's two most prominent dalit leaders.
