Recenzii

This useful title is a worthwhile addition to professional collections looking for materials to link literature to the curriculum. Included are sections on science, history, art and poetry, biographies, and humor, with several subdivisions within each category. The author provides a good introduction and rationale for using picture books with older students. For each topic there are several books featured. With the featured books, there are several activities and a summary. These activities are fairly simple to accomplish within a class period and don't require much in the way of extra materials. The author then lists more books with summaries (but no activities) that link well with the same subject. The author also provides readers with an index of authors and illustrators, an index of titles, and a short bibliography. The selections include some very current titles, as well as some older choices. This title will be a great resource when a teacher needs a quick activity to supplement what is being taught in the classroom, especially in science or history. Linking literature to the curriculum is very popular. Students really enjoy the picture book format no matter what age they are-as long as the books are good ones. Molly Pearson's choices are good ones that will work well. Recommended.
