Bill Davis: Nation Builder, and Not So Bland After All

Autor Steve Paikin
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 31 oct 2016
The first authorized biography of Bill Davis, the enigmatic Ontario premier who carried on a Tory dynasty, but was also a crucial Trudeau supporter William Davis was one of the most important premiers in Canadian history. The longest-serving premier of Ontario in the twentieth century, he won four elections and carried on a Tory dynasty in Ontario politics that would last a total of forty-two years. But he was also an indispensable ally of Pierre Trudeau in the patriation of the Constitution, with its entrenched Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Before he became premier, Davis was perhaps the most important education minister in Ontario history, presiding over the creation of the community college system. As premier, he went on to lead Ontario through buoyant and recessionary economic times, leaving a legacy Ontarians continue to enjoy. Now 85, Davis still lives on Main Street in his beloved Brampton.
