Debasis Bagchi, PhD, MACN, FRSM, CNS, FISNFF, CFFS, MAIChE, received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry in 1982. He is an Adjunct Professor in the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, Texas Southern University, Houston, TX; an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Biology, Adelphi University, Garden City, NY, and the Course Director of Neurotoxicology (BIO 585); an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Psychology, Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology, Adelphi University, Garden City, NY, and the Course Co-Director of Integrative Neuroscience Seminar (PIA395-001); and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Herbs LLC, Concord, CA. Ex-Professor in the Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, Houston, TX. He served as the Chief Scientific Officer at Cepham Inc, Belmont, NJ, from June 2013, till Dec 2018, and as the Director of Scientific Affairs, VNI Inc., Bonita Springs, FL, from Jan 2019 to Jan 2023. He served as the Senior Vice President of Research & Development of InterHealth Nutraceuticals Inc, Benicia, CA, from 1998 till Feb 2011; Director of Innovation and Clinical Affairs, of Iovate Health Sciences, Oakville, ON, till June 2013.
Dr. Bagchi received the Master of American College of Nutrition Award in October 2010; became a Fellow of ISNFF in 2021 and awarded an overseas Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine (FRSM) in 2022. He is the Past Chairman of International Society of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods (ISNFF), Past President of American College of Nutrition, Clearwater, FL, and Past Chair of the Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods Division of Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), Chicago, IL. He is serving as a Distinguished Advisor on the Japanese Institute for Health Food Standards (JIHFS), Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Bagchi is a Member of the Study Section and Peer Review Committee of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD. Dr. Bagchi has 443 papers in peer reviewed journals, 48 books and 20 patents. Dr. Bagchi is also a Member of the Society of Toxicology, Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Nutrition Research Academy, and Member of the TCE stakeholder Committee of the Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH. Dr. Bagchi is the Associate Editors of the Journal of Functional Foods, Journal of the American College of Nutrition, and Archives of Medical and Biomedical Research, and also serving as Editorial Board Member of numerous peer reviewed journals, including Antioxidants & Redox Signaling, Cancer Letters, Food & Nutrition Research, Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods, The Original Internist, and other peer reviewed journals.
Samudra Prosad Banik completed his B.Sc. in Microbiology from Calcutta University, India in 2001. Subsequently he did his Masters from the Department of Biophysics & Molecular Biology from the same University in 2003. Thereafter, he obtained his Ph.D. in protein biochemistry and fungal biotechnology from CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata in 2009 after qualifying as a Junior Research Fellow in University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test of India. He has been the recipient of travel grant from International Rice Research Institute, Philippines. He has been serving as Assistant Professor at the Department of Microbiology, Maulana Azad College, Kolkata since 2009. His teaching specialization is Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Protein Biochemistry. He has been the Principal Investigator of one major and one minor research grant awarded by the University Grants Commission, India and the thrust areas of his research interest are 1) Biophysical characterization of glycated proteins and their implications in Type II diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders and 2) Biophysical characterization of industrially important fungal glycosidases in relation to production of cellulosic ethanol. He has authored 27 peer reviewed publications with an average JCR impact factor of more than 3 and has contributed 14 chapters in books. He has successfully mentored one doctoral student till now and numerous Masters’ students for their summer internship. He is a Life member of the Biotech Research Society of India and Microbiologists Society, India. He is presently the Head of his department and also a member of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of his college.
