Blood and Honor explores the concept of antebellum Southern honor through the life of William Waightstill Avery, a Confederate Congressman, who killed another politician in front of a crowded courtroom, but was then acquitted by a jury of his peers. It also examines his relationship with slavery and the plantation system and his political role in the Civil War era.
