Bowerman and the Men of Oregon: The Story of Oregon's Legendary Coach and Nike's Cofounder
Autor Kenny Mooreen Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 aug 2007
The fi rst biography of legendary Bill Bowerman, a momentous
yet unsung pioneer in the history of running,
is told by one of his champion athletes, world-class
marathoner and two-time Olympian Kenny Moore
No other coach has had as great an impact on the sport
of running as Bill Bowerman. During his tenure as track
coach at the University of Oregon, he won four national
team titles and his athletes set 13 world and 22 American
records. He also ignited the jogging boom, invented
the waffl e-soled running shoe that helped found Nike,
and coached the track and fi eld team at the 1972 Munich
Olympic Games. His many achievements inspired Kenny
Moore, with whom Bowerman formed a strong bond.
With full cooperation of the Bowerman family and Nike,
plus years of taped interviews with friends, relatives, students,
and competitors, Moore brilliantly re-creates Bowerman’s life,
providing ample evidence of why Bowerman’s widow, Barbara,
said: “If anyone should write Bill’s story, it’s Kenny Moore.”
“There’s hardly a more perfect Bowerman biographer
than Kenny Moore, who brings both Sports Illustrated writing
chops and an intimate knowledge of Bowerman’s coaching
style to the task.”—Seattle Times
“An inspiring and touching look at the man who made
Eugene, Oregon, the running capital of the U.S.”
