In the 1970s, avid train spotter and photographer Andy Sparks captured day-to-day life on the railways, recording for posterity scenes that were taken for granted and have now disappeared into memory - everything from loco-hauled passenger trains, the first generation of multiple units and short wagon freight trains to semaphore signals, newspaper and mail trains.
