Notă biografică
Kathy Coudle-King grew up in New Jersey, moved to Miami, Florida in high school and caught the theatre bug. She hasn't shaken it since. Coudle-King earned her B.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from NYU, where she was house manager for a season at the Apple Corp Theatre for the Women's Project. Needing space, lots of it, she moved to North Dakota, where she ended up earning a Master's degree in English from the Univ. of ND, where she is a Senior Lecturer in Composition. She receives regular commissions and if they coincide with her interests, she creates pieces for educational, medical, and social organizations. Eating disorders, racism, stalking, and Cinco de Mayo are all examples of topics she's explored. History is another topic that draws Coudle-King. "It's a bit like time traveling," she says. In 2008 she won the Assoc. of Theatre in Higher Education award for her play Companeras, which later went on to win the Larry Corse Int'l New Play prize in 2011. A screenwriter, as well, her script SHRIMP Po'BOY was a semi-finalist for the prestigious Nicholl's Award, presented by the Academy of Motion Pictures. In 2010-11 she criss-crossed the state of ND, writing and shooting her first documentary, OFF THE MAP, which received funding from the ND Humanities Council and the ND Council on the Arts. Kathleen lives in Grand Forks, ND where she is the Executive Director for the Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre, teaches at the University of North Dakota, and is the mother of four.
