Bushwacked: Coping with the American Superpower After 9-11 & Other Post-Cold War Dilemmas

Autor Michael B Davie
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 oct 2002
In the immediate aftermath of 9-11, Canadians and the federal government opened their arms to the Americans. Despite the continued potential threat from aircraft, Canada immediately provided permission for aircraft in the US to re-route into Canadian airspace and land at Canadian airports. Mass demonstrations of sympathy and support were provided along with pledges to assist militarily. Given this outpouring of support and the long-standing trade relations, it would have been reasonable to expect trade relations would hopefully improve, but certainly not worsen. In fact, the US continued to punish the fair-trading Canadians with trade laws that assume guilt and apply penalties until innocence can be proven: Not the nicest way to treat your friends. The author examines the rationale behind the perplexing approach taken by the world's reigning Superpower.
