masterful
The book is a remarkable undertaking in its scope, employing macro-, meso-, and microanalytical perspectives to assess more than 30 years of data on business lobbying in Brussels. The result is a broad-ranging look at the evolution of the EU-business relationship that manages to contribute to the academic literature at the intersection of political science and business while also being accessible to policymakers, managers, and students.
a deep and comprehensive account of processes of business lobbying in the EU institutions.
the authors make strong empirical and theoretical contributions to the study of EU business-government relations...this book will trigger more interdisciplinary conversations between political scientists and management scholars
Academics and researchers will appreciate the book for providing an explicitly theorized, policy-contextualized understanding of business's role in EU policymaking. EU policy-makers will come to understand the crucial role they play in demanding business lobbying. Beyond the actual empirical contributions…the book provides a rare attempt to synthesize the wealth of research undertaken at the intersection of interest groups, companies, lobbying and the European Union over the past 10-20 years.
a rewarding read for students of business and politics as well as academics... [and] policy practitioners aiming to regulate lobbying.
The authors have written an authoritative account of the structure and strategy of corporate engagement with the institutions and agents of the EU.
a useful resource for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners alike...its integration of insights spanning decades of research work, its multiple disciplinary approaches, and its use of the theoretical lenses of resource dependence theory and institutional theory, should certainly inform our understanding, and suggest fruitful avenues for research inquiry.
a magisterial analysis of business lobbying at the very heart of the European Union-Brussels.
This well-marshalled empirical material could be used to stimulate a much needed normative debate on the role of business in EU decision making. The conceptual framework used in this book aids a better understanding of the complex processes at work.
I cannot recommend this book more highly.
a welcome contribution for scholars studying the European Union, business strategies and political economy in general. The authors' unique expertise in the field makes the book extraordinarily rich, both theoretically and empirically. At the same time, Business Lobbying in the European Union remains accessible and comprehensible for non-experts of the topic, and thus it is a valuable resource for students, researchers and practitioners
the authors deliver enormous insight for both scholars and practitioners in a very accessible tone... I cannot recall the last time I read a scholarly book on lobbying with so much enjoyment, or learning so much from it...I cannot recommend this book more highly. Whether you are a scholar or a professional interested in how interest groups interact with EU policymakers in Brussels, you will benefit more from this book than from any other.
this work is commendable for its impressive range and its original contribution to the study of business–EU relations.
a rich and powerful study...outstanding
A landmark book on business-government relations.
...this book is bound to be a landmark and a long-lasting addition to the bibliographies of lobbying specialists.
