Butler's Justice

en Limba Engleză Paperback
In a small Mississippi town, Ashley Butler is accused of murder. Her trial unearths a dark family secret. Monroe Lovett has moved to Peregrine, Mississippi to begin a new chapter in his life with his wife, Debbie. Years as a pastor have drained him of his desire to continue in church work. The only path he sees God laying out before him, is going back into law. Much to his chagrin, clients have not found their way to his office, and he is questioning his decision of making the move to Mississippi, wondering if he misinterpreted God's plan. That was about to change. Emotions boiled over in the master bedroom of a home located in Lane County, Mississippi. Adulterous acts led to a single rash act. In a matter of seconds a loud argument climaxed with the horrid murder of Julie. A discussion seeking to save a family's reputation and a marriage, quickly evolved into a whole veil being ripped open. As law enforcement investigates the crime scene, the question quickly becomes, who committed this heinous act. Working off a tip and the evidence, Detective Carson puts out an arrest warrant. Ashley Butler hears from a friend that the sheriff's deputies are looking for her. Not seeing much hope for her future, believing that her life is about to end, if not physically, then by spending the rest of it behind bars, she seeks out the help of Lane County's newest defense attorney, Monroe T. Lovett. Knowing who holds the power in the county, she's not even sure that he can help her. She tells him that she is married to Marcus Butler, Jr. That name rings a bell with Monroe. He's heard of the Butler name. Ashley further explains that she is about to be arrested for murdering her husband's girlfriend, Julie Miller. After Ashley reveals to him her predicament, with few details, but in need of a client, he agrees to take her case. Soon, Monroe learns he's got more than a just any client as he becomes embattled in a fight for Ashley's life. Trust quickly becomes an issue for Ashley and Monroe, as their faith in each other, in others, and in God is put to the test. Ashley finds it hard to completely confide in Monroe, even though he is her attorney. Monroe faces Robert Breaux, a self-serving egotistical District Attorney, who's only interested in one thing-winning. Monroe also encounters another dilemma when he is asked by a stranger, Edward (Herm) Hermann, to allow him to help with the case. Herm is qualified, but Monroe is unsure where his loyalties lie. Those trust issues are intensified as the suspicious legal system, a possible corrupt sheriff's department, along with Lane County's head honcho and Ashley's father-in-law, Marcus Butler, appear to be working to forcefully undermine justice. As his defense quickly unravels, Monroe is forced to take another avenue to prove Ashley's innocence. That path takes him to the point where he find himself right in the middle of opening a Butler family closet that even Ashley does not know about. No one in Lane County knows the truth the Butlers have kept locked up for years. And the family patriarch will do whatever he must to keep that skeleton where he wants it, deeply concealed. To do that and avoid community humiliation, Butler Sr. forms some unlikely alliances to insure their secret remains buried. Those associations have different motives than Butler's. Struggling to understand what his investigation is unearthing, believing Ashley and holding her confidence becomes even more problematic for Monroe. After a heated confrontation between the two of them. His actions cause her to question God's concern for her. She knows to move forward will require that she reveal her past, a past Ashley would just as soon forget. And that mean letting down years of walls for self-protection she has built. Through it all, lies are revealed, and believed truths are shown to be untruths. Those involved will face threats, fear, and emotional and physical pain. But, in the end, Butler's justice will p
