This book is not really about buying a cabin, but it is about investing in rest. We do not usually use this word "rest" in the way it was intended. We use other words-leisure, recreation, play, hobby, interests and margin-which all capture certain aspects of rest but leave us with only a fragmented and inadequate understanding of the concept. Rest is the biblical word that reflects what is true about the nature of God and his created order. Rest is both different and inseparable from work. Rest is not idleness, although often equated with it. Such distinctions become clear as these themes are traced throughout the Bible in the first section of the book. Upon this foundation, the second section provides practical observations about the dynamics of rest and the unique challenges of our time. The final section of the book illustrates the practice of rest from the author's experience. This book is no academic tome or dry theological treatise.
