Canterbury Garfield is a washed up crime reporter, a lousy insurance salesman and well on his way to becoming the new town drunk of Puntayelo, Florida. Which is pretty much how he wants it. All he really cares about is another shot of Irish whiskey, a good Nicaraguan cigar and some quality face time between his new girlfriend's breast implants. But when the mayor starts taking an unexplained interest in Can's affairs and ends up getting himself murdered Can goes from being just another colorful Gulf Coast character to prime suspect. Even his friend Earl Johnson, the police chief, doesn't seem to buy his alibi. When demons from his past come to call Can ends up smack in the middle of Latin American gangsters, federal agents, US Special Operations forces, an Asian hit man and an eighty-seven-year-old woman furious about her auto insurance premiums who may or may not have tried to run him down with her Toyota Prius. No worries, though. When he isn't in the hospital or the police station or ducking from gunfire or shipwrecked in the Ten Thousand Islands he is pretty sure he can figure it all out.
