In the modern American city of New Hope, caped vigilantes are not simply the fanfare of comic books and television. In this alternate history, they are flesh-and-blood super humans who have evolved with the world itself, embraced as modern gladiators, ruled by the media and set up with policy and procedure rather than code of valor. As excited citizens reach for their phones and dial 1-800-SAVE ME, Tracy Gutkind just wants a normal college life. But her chances of that always seem to fly up, up and away, thanks to a seriously bad case of precognition. Suddenly, a mysterious retired marvel offers Tracy the key to ceasing the psychic voices in her brain. But to get it, she'll have to deal first-hand with the "cape culture" as she bands together with a coterie of retired heroes in order to stop an assassin who's out to rid the world of anyone wearing a mask. Forced to stand against a world where death is just another part of the entertainment and the line between hero and villain isn't as clear as it seems, just getting the chance to be normal is the least of Tracy's concerns.
