It does seem, from personal experience, that if we allow ourselves to anthropomorphise animals, to attribute human character to them, we are open to be emotionally moved; to being cheered or upset by what happens to our pets. We can be as affected by what happens to our animals as we are by what can befall our human family and friends. This is the essence of my Cats o' Mine's tales.
