If we desire to know someone, we will spend time with them. By listening to them and interacting with them, we will discover what they stand for, what they believe in, and what they consider is right and wrong. We will come to know their likes and dislikes. By learning these things, we will understand exactly who they are. In other words, we will know their character. Learning who they are sheds light on what kind of person they are, and that is the true intimacy of knowing an individual. This describes the process of forming a relationship with someone. Forming a relationship with God involves the same process. By listening to him through the careful study of his word and by learning what he stands for, believes in, and values through an understanding of his law, we discover his character. God desires the formation of a relationship with each of us. As we learn more about him within his word and law, we will grow closer to him and imitate his character. We will be changed by beholding him. After all, we become like those whom we hang out with. We often adopt the characteristics and values of our friends. If we hang out with God, we will become like him by adopting his character. In this book, we expose the characters of God and Satan through a careful examination of Scripture. As difficult passages and subjects are encountered in our studies, we will engage them. The Bible will explain itself. It is our sole guide. We will allow it to support, teach, amplify, and reiterate those truths that it advocates. Piece by piece, we will uncover and reveal the character of the divine.
