Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy: Components of Evidence-Based Treatments for Youth and their Parents

Editat de Stephen Hupp Cuvânt înainte de Bruce F. Chorpita
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 5 sep 2018
Every day, millions of children experience serious mental health issues, such as symptoms related to autism, psychosis, mania, depression, and anxiety. Moreover, many youth struggle with issues related to trauma, eating, sleep, disruptive behavior, and substance use. Most of these youth do not receive evidence-based treatments. Instead, they commonly receive untested, ineffective, and even harmful treatments. Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy presents the research-supported treatment packages and their individual components for every major mental health issue facing infants, children, and adolescents. Each chapter also identifies and analyzes other variables and resources that influence treatment: parents, assessment, comorbidity, demographics and medication. Useful resources are included for each mental health issued covered in the book. The chapters are organized in the same order as they appear in the DSM-5.

Recenzii

'This book offers a simple, straightforward introduction to interventions for youth and parents. By highlighting the common elements of specific evidence-based treatments, readers are provided with an eminently usable roadmap in their work with a range of disorders and conditions.' Timothy A. Cavell, University of Arkansas
'This edited volume presents a comprehensive approach to what works in evidence-based treatments for youth and families. What makes it unique is its focus on intervention components, as opposed to manualized intervention packages. It should be on the desks of clinicians, educators, researchers, and graduate students - and will be widely consulted.' Robert J. McMahon, Simon Fraser University, Canada
'Hupp's terrific new handbook brings together many of the field's leading authorities to offer an authoritative yet accessible 'one-stop shop' on youth interventions. This timely handbook's strategic emphasis on evidence-based principles and practices over specific protocols aligns it well with the current state-of-the-science.' Jonathan S. Comer, Florida International University
'Hupp scores big in this volume on child and adolescent psychotherapy. Huge, in fact! He and his contributors provide a rich glimpse into the elements or components of evidence-based treatments for a variety of child and adolescent problems and disorders. The twenty chapters in this volume not only cover the field, they stretch the field, and they guide us into the next generation of evidence-based assessment and treatment practices. This volume belongs in the hands of clinicians and researchers alike - it is a book whose time has come, and which will surely advance clinical science in the years ahead.' Thomas H. Ollendick,, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
'Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy will be a most valuable go-to for practitioners puzzling about choices of safe and effective treatments for childhood mental health disorders. Helpfully organized in parallel to DSM, the book really has everything: illuminating discussions of common factors, developmental contexts, parent roles, and demographic differences.' Jean Mercer, Stockton University, New Jersey
