This novel is based on a true story, the strange, brief life of Helga Goebbels, the eldest of Josef Gobbels' children, a sensitive 12-year-old girl. Cooped up and isolated, hiding in Hitler's bunker in Berlin, at the end of WWII, as her siblings distract themselves with toys and books, Helga is forced to reflect on her life up to this point. As the daughter of a leading Nazi, she has led a privileged, gilded existence, holidaying with Hitler and being paraded as part of the perfect Aryan family. But perhaps her 'dream childhood' has not been all that it seemed... A fictionalised diary that breathes life in to the bare bones of history.
