Citizen Warrior - The 4th Branch

Autor J. Thomas Rompel
en Limba Engleză Paperback
It's holiday time, and Carter Thompson is visiting his favorite bookstore on Black Friday at the Southwest Regional Mall. Suddenly, his shopping is interrupted by the sound of gunfire, screams and explosions. Drawn to the commotion, Carter finds himself standing in a doorway, frozen with fear, watching a terrorist close in on a family of four. Choosing between running to safety or saving the family, he decides to move forward and engage the gunman. Unbeknownst to Carter, the father he'd saved is a retired Delta Force colonel. As the carnage mounts, Carter and the colonel join forces and engage in a running gun battle inside the mall. The remaining Islamic terrorists are hell-bent on killing as many Americans as they can. After the attack, the retired Col. Doug Redman befriends Carter. Doug feels a debt of gratitude to Carter for saving him and his family. In a meeting afterward, the two men learn they share the same view about their country; America is in distress and grave danger: An unsecured Southern border, staggering debt, a demoralized and depleted military and enemies infiltrating the country at will are just a few of their shared concerns. They both believe this is a direct result of the cesspool of corruption in Washington, D.C. At the conclusion of the meeting, Doug takes Carter into his confidence and invites him to train with him and three other retired special-force operators at a secluded training facility. The group is joined by two of Carter's closest friends, and all of them go through a number of weeks of live fire training. They then learn of an elderly husband and wife who own a ranch on the Arizona/Mexico border. The couple is being terrorized and threatened by the Magdalena Cartel, a group that controls the town of San Miguel. It is well known by the U.S. and Mexican authorities that the Magdalena Cartel has taken over the little town and is using it as a demarcation point for drug smuggling and human trafficking. Understaffed Border Patrol and other law enforcement are either unwilling or powerless to respond to the couple's pleas for help. Recognizing the two have been abandoned by both local and federal law enforcement, the team of seven take it upon themselves to pay a visit to the Cartel in San Miguel, which is just one mile across the border from the elderly couple's ranch. Their mission is to give a clear and solid message to the Magdalena Cartel that even though the U.S. government lacks the fortitude and will to protect its citizens and border, there are individual citizens who will no longer put up with the Cartel's intimidation and illegal incursions onto U.S. soil. While in San Miguel, the team discovers that the Magdalena Cartel has delivered dangerous and deadly material to an Islamic terrorist cell that is backed by ISIS. Further investigation reveals an impending terrorist attack on a major American city that would dwarf the destruction of 9/11. Recognizing the future of the country is at stake and not trusting a politically correct and bumbling federal government, Carter and Colonel Redman take it upon themselves to try and intervene on the imminent attack in a heart-pounding, cross-country chase.
