Coach

Autor Dr Gerald Milton Knowles Editat de Marilyn Von Qualen
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Synopsis- "COACH-The Life And Times of US Hall of Fame Football Coach Emil Nasser," It is becoming increasingly apparent that the scandalous behavior of football elites at all levels are causing cynicism and inciting similar misconduct on the part of young athletes who idolize them. The recent domestic violence by NFL players, college violations indicative of an Heisman Trophy forfeiture, and the frequent publicized escapades of high school players stand as poignant examples of the failure of key football role models to forge respect and sportsmanlike ideals among our young. "Coach" cites the passion, integrity and courage that a coach can imbue in his players who proclaimed, "Your words echo into eternity. You did it all for us. We will never forget you." During his illustrious career Emil Nasser mentored an endless list of individuals including US Marine Corps Captain J.R. Vargas, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, and Ron McCarthy, the "Father" of SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics). Both men are classic examples of the Winslow youth who cite Coach Emil Nasser as the greatest influence on their lives. Born in Napoleonville, La. and reared within the rich, exacting traditions of his country, Nasser was immersed along with his parents and five sisters in a Lebanese-American culture exemplifying respect, honesty, compassion and a litany of other expectations aimed at the formation of character, incubated in the small Arizona mining town of Miami. Nasser became a Lumberjack footballer at Flagstaff, Arizona. And played both ways for entire games, earning a reputation as an awesome tackle. He also boxed, threw the discus, played basketball and was active and popular in clubs and student government. During World War II Nasser survived 60 roundtrip flights over the "Hump" from India to China. He excelled in mechanical training exemplified by his heroic rescue of fifteen B-24 bombers from a fire and explosion. Nasser received air medals and presidential citations for his valor and service. After World War II Nasser became Winslow head football coach, initiating an unrivaled 35-year career in the history of Arizona football. Exhaustive drills, long days of precise and repetitious practice assured success and made Nasser and the Bulldogs one of the most respected football programs in Arizona. Nasser and his teams boasted state and division championships and undefeated seasons in football as well as championships in baseball and track. Nasser is acclaimed as the most successful and respected football coach in Arizona history, and his receipt of The National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame award stands out among numerous other distinctions. Ever the humanitarian, Nasser was an eager activist on the early forefront of Civil Rights efforts for race and gender. Thousands of Winslow students were forever affected in some positive way by Emil Nasser, a legacy confirmed by a myriad of testimonials and superlative achievements attributed to his influence. He is a man both loved and honored across the State of Arizona, a powerful changer of life, hope and destiny. Chapters in the book detail the character, success and impact that Nasser had on youth athletes: 1. Will His Like Ever Pass This Way Again? 2. Crucibles That Shaped Greatness. 3. Right Of Passage As A Stellar Lumberjack. 4. Flights Over The "The Hump" In World War II. 5. We Are The Champions, "The Bulldogs." 6. Conquests And Fame. 7. Deep and Lasting Impacts You will stand watch, O human star, burning without a flicker, perfect flame, bright and resourceful spirit, each of your rays a great idea- O torch which passes from hand to hand from age to age world without end (Capek)
