James Domine is a multi-faceted artist who lives and works in the San Fernando Valley region of southern California. He is author of "The Naked Man," a novel that mixes elements of tragedy and comedy in a realistic treatment of contemporary life in suburban Los Angeles. Written in a pithy vernacular, the characters act out a true-to-life millennial drama that is both tragic and farcical in equal measure. Domine's "Collected Poems" is an anthology written over many years that deals with the meaning of life in an age of technological intrusion. A contemporary philosophical interpretation of ancient mythology using metaphysical imagery and symbolic iconography is permeated throughout with a recurring preoccupation with love, the true subject of all poetry. An active composer and conductor, Domine's many musical compositions include symphonies, concerti, a ballet, an opera, chamber music and solo instrumental pieces. Domine is music director and conductor of the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra an ensemble that plays a leading role in the musical life of Southern California.
