Computer Assisted Eye Motility Diagnostics

Autor Siegfried Priglinger, Michael Buchberger
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 10 oct 2024
This book introduces a unique computer system for predicting the outcome of strabismus surgeries. Diagnostic data of individual surgical cases, related diagnosis and treatments are incorporated into a well-designed, clinically applicable simulation model. Based on a biomechanical model of the human eye, a new way of interactive, virtual eye muscle surgery is proposed, which enables the prediction of surgical outcomes based on objective, anatomically related and measured data. Additionally, a realistic three-dimensional visualization of the human eyes and their muscles supports detailed evaluation and meaningful interpretation of eye motility disorders. This software system is neither intended to replace common clinical diagnostics, nor surgical expertise. It should improve education, training, and the accuracy of clinical decisions due to the possibility of simulation, graphical representation and comparison of different eye motility disorders.
Computer Assisted Eye Motility Diagnostics, 2nd Edition brings education in the field of ophthalmology to a new dimension – for the basics of the function of the oculomotor control to deep inside knowledge for dealing with complex eye motility disorders and to create motivation and interest in strabology through learning by doing.

Notă biografică

Siegfried Priglinger is a retired Ophthalmologist with expertise in computer-based interventions and early visual intervention. He served as Director of the Department of Orthoptics and Neuro-ophthalmology at the Charitable Brothers Hospital in Linz, Austria, from 1977 to 2006. Throughout his tenure as Director, Dr. Priglinger spearheaded groundbreaking research and transformative developments in the field of ophthalmology. His work focused upon improvement and refinement of computer-based diagnostics and therapeutic procedures, particularly in eye muscle and eyelid surgery.
One of Dr. Priglinger's most notable achievements is the development of the SEE++ software system. Collaborating with the research department at Johannes Kepler University, RISC Software GmbH, this innovative software has paved the way for new possibilities in the field. With SEE++, ophthalmologists and surgeons gain access to cutting-edge tools that enhance their diagnostic capabilities and improve the efficacy of therapeutic interventions.
Michael Buchberger holds a PhD in computer science from the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, which he obtained in 2004. He directed a research department for medical Informatics from 2000 to 2009. One of Dr. Buchberger's notable achievements includes his role as the primary developer of the SEE++ software system, an innovative solution designed to provide clinical decision support for enhancing medical diagnosis and treatment procedures.
Since 2010, Dr. Buchberger has dedicated his professional career to sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise in software engineering. He works as a teacher, researcher, lecturer, and consultant in this field, making valuable contributions to the development of software engineering methodologies and practices.
