I am a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor formerly with the Betty Ford Center. In 1995, while on my way to the National Dual Disorder Conference in Las Vegas. I began to experience an odd series of events. Although in strange surroundings everything began to seem very familiar. Much more than a common Deja Vu experience, I actually recognized everyone I saw. I began to entertain ideas as to the cause of this strange condition. These reasons, ranging from the logical to the bizarre are documented in Condition One. It was not until I returned home and disclosed the episode to my friend and fellow counselor that I was confronted with the most shocking and unlikely theory of them all...... Condition One is not your average sweetness and light, chunky wonderful, sunbeam for the new age drivel so prevalent and popular today. It's more like the Celestine prophecy genetically spliced with Pulp Fiction, and it's based on a true story. Condition One is written in a style as rough, raw and ridiculous as life itself. Universal precautions appear to be indicated as we have found that no spiritual path is sanitary. Like it or not you have just become a part of CONDITION ONE CONDITION ONE is based on a true story. In fact, it contains many true stories. It also contains some people, places, situations and institutions which are composites and others which are complete fabrications. As artist, I have taken a great deal of creative license. As a Texan, I tend to exaggerate. In parts of this story I have stretched the truth in order to make a point. In other portions, I have lied for no reason whatsoever, except perhaps to see if I could get away with it. CONDITION ONE does not purport to be profound. It is both the cause and the result of an admittedly warped mind, is given from the heart and loosed on you, the unsuspecting reader, like so much flatulence. It is little more than a literary fart: long enough to be noticeable, loud enough to be laughable, volatile enough to be embarrassing, but in the grand scheme of things, quite insignificant.
