Thwarting the plan of an apocalyptic AI doesn't pay. James and our heroes find themselves lost in their current state of reality. James, Tyler, Theo, and Danny must all fight their own battles to get their old lives back as they recover from Val's vicious attack. But after living in a digital prison and fighting off an army of robotic animals, reality doesn't seem to work for them anymore.
In Val's virtual world, James and Mia were married. They had a child, and they lived a life together. In reality, they have been on one date that ended as a hostage situation. James is stuck recovering from the loss of a wife and daughter who never existed. As if reconciling his virtual existence with reality weren't complicated enough, Val's automated commands in James' eye begin to connect him to a total stranger while he sleeps. He sees the world through their eyes and feels everything they feel.
As James' connections become more intense, he begins to question if Val is really gone or just waiting for the right moment to strike again.
