Autor Julie Stevens
en Limba Engleză Paperback
When Julie Stevens was first diagnosed with autism, she wanted to read and understand as much as possible particularly around the emotional impact of diagnosis. However, there didn t seem to be much out there for people like Julie, diagnosed later in life and already with an established life and career. Julie didn t know whether what she was feeling and experiencing was usual, or whether she was an outlier. Struggling to accept her diagnosis and its implications, Julie started writing. This book is the result: an open and honest account of the first year after an autism diagnosis. This book takes you on a whistlestop tour of how Julie coped with some of the limitations the diagnosis placed upon her and came to her own conclusions about what it means to live life on the autism spectrum, with all the joys and challenges that can bring. But most of all, it s a book about coming to terms with a label that can change your life, even if that s not what you were expecting at the outset.

Notă biografică

Julie Stevens was always out in front, winning races and taking centre stage at the theatre. A career in teaching followed, but was brought to an end by a diagnosis of MS (Multiple Sclerosis). This didn't stop her. Her poems are now the winners, inspiring others by speaking honestly of the triumphs and upsets of her disabled life. Step into the Dark ventures inside the mind and finds the unimaginable truth. It will show you the true impact of being disabled, whilst bringing a message of care, hope and success for everybody. Julie Stevens writes poems that cover many themes, but often engages with the problems of disability. She is widely published in places such as Ink Sweat & Tears (Pick of the Month, Oct 2021), Broken Sleep Books, The Honest Ulsterman, Strix, Fly on the Wall Press and Indigo Dreams Publishing. Her winning Stickleback pamphlet Balancing Act was published by The Hedgehog Poetry Press (June 2021) and her chapbook Quicksand by Dreich (Sept 2020).Find out more about Julie's work at: www.jumpingjulespoetry.com
