This book tries to explore the factors for the construction of educated middle-class in colonial Orissa. It has unravelled the socio-cultural characteristics which became a unique identity for this new social group. The colonial education became the major characteristic which distinguishes the educated middle-class from other social groups.The educated middle-class as a colonial product had played an important role in all spheres of life in colonial Oriya society.
