V.N. BALASUBRAMANYAM is Professor of Development Economics at Lancaster University, United Kingdom. He is the author of The Economy of India, International Transfer of Technology to India and Meeting the Third World Challenge (with A. Macbean). He has published a number of articles and edited books on trade and development issues.
