Editat de Antoinette Verhage, Et Shapland, Joanna, Adam Crawford
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 15 sep 2013
The Groupement Europeen de Recherches sur les Normativites tr.: European Research Group on Law-Making]) (GERN) is a large consortium of scientific researchers in the domain of deviance and social control that studies delinquency, penal institutions, public policies of security, and the importance of penal questions in society. This book contains a selection of papers which were presented and discussed at the first GERN Summer School for PhD students, held in September 2012 at Ghent University, Belgium. The essays coalesce around four overarching themes: (1) the use and meaning of violence, (2) policing the informal economy and tackling social disorder, (3) methodological issues in research on crime, and (4) contemporary penal institutions. It is a rich compilation of new work by emerging European scholars in the field of 'Crime, Violence, Justice, and Social Order.' Contents include: Flemish Youngsters and Right-Wing Extremist Groups. Status Quaestionis * Researching Men's Violence: An Integrated Approach to Dangerous Subjectivities * Framing Fear: From War to Civilization and Back * The Supply of Doping Products: A Neglected Phenomenon. The Case of Cycling * Rural Door Supervision * Police Decision Making and the Drunk: Exploring Penalty Notices for Disorder * The Use of Restorative Justice in England and Wales: Preliminary Findings * Emotional and Insecurity Reactions to Different Urban Contexts * Assessing the Vulnerability of Targets for Burglary. Creating a Multi-Level Observational Instrument * 'Intransparency, ' Deviance, and Crime in Science. Steps Towards a Comprehensive Analysis * Distance Matters: A Look at Crime Trip Distances in Flanders * Member State Differences in Prison Disciplinary Regimes and Implications for European Union Cooperation * Participation in Prison Programs: Encouraging and Discouraging Factors. *** With the inauguration of this new GERN Research Paper series, GERN intends to monitor and disseminate cutting-edge studies into European security issues, reflecting the result of doctoral research in the framework of the GERN. This series provides an excellent platform from which to survey key emergent topics in the field. The series' editors and authors are contributing to a better understanding of contemporary questions, presenting recent research results and scientific reflection by devising new approaches and by re-evaluating the heritage of social sciences in this domain. There is a new openness with regard to other disciplines and to the normative questions arising from the commission of crime and the formal reaction to it by actors in the criminal justice system and beyond.
