Salt Lake City, Utah in 1983 is a beautiful and vibrant metropolis with patrolmen on foot, bars were regulated by the drinks they were allowed to sell, and the licenses cost accordingly. Beer bars sold domestic brands, mixers, and wine coolers, but you provided the liquor.
Shopping was done at the local department store, furniture store or, the Crossroad's Mall, ZCMI Center (Zion's Co-operative Mercantile Institution), or Trolley Square, and pagers and payphones were the tech of the day. Imagine no laptops, or cell phones. No Google, Suri, or GPS. You have to read a map, and you ride a bus wherever you needed to go for about thirty-five cents one way.
This is the world of Amanda Granger until her ex-husband sells her to a local drug dealer to try to turn her into the man's personal money maker. Now she meets the darker side of humanity, and must decide who she can, or cannot, trust, and she discovers there are hidden wars no one sees.
In this first in the series, she finds herself the attraction of an attacker who continues to invade her home, and a drug dealer slash pimp who has decided she challenged him too many times by refusing to work in his stable. From Salt Lake City to Park City in Utah to Reno, Nevada, she struggles to maintain her sanity and find a way home. Two of Salt Lake City's police officers' are trying to track her and are further hampered by a lack of solid leads. DNA is not being used yet and they must find him with good old-fashioned police work.
