Assassins: thieves of that which is most precious: life. Artimas and his brother, Rastallin, are two such thieves. They are assassins of such renowned reputation that they have been hired to kill members of highest society, but this is their biggest job yet: The Queen herself. The job goes well, but as every criminal knows, the job isn't done until you get away clean, and Artimas and Rastallin have the prodigious detective Val Jean hot on their tail. While on the run, Artimas finds himself plagued with questions, questions he'd rather not answer. He has dealt out death to so many, but what will happen when death comes for him? If his mother was right and God would judge him, how could he stand before the Almighty One? Will the brothers escape, or will they finally be made to pay for their crimes?
