The Department of Defense (DOD) purchases goods and services from contractors to support military operations. Any purchase of a good or service by DOD is defined as a procurement. DOD's acquisition system is highly complex and does not always produce systems that meet anticipated cost or performance expectations. This book examines the DOD's defence acquisition structure and considers the DODs efforts to improve how the department acquires weapon systems.
