Notă biografică
Babette Weil was born in the Mississippi Delta and grew up there throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s. She lived through the years of "flower power", protests, desegregation, women's liberation and space exploration. She attended Mississippi College just south of the state capitol, Jackson. She stayed in Mississippi for a couple of years after college and then joined the Navy wanting to "see the world".
She enlisted and became a Hospital Corpsman/Psychiatric Technician. After being enlisted for three years and advancing to E5, she applied and was accepted to Officer Candidate School. After graduation as a line officer from OCS, she was stationed at NAS Miramar in San Diego, CA. There she advanced from an Ensign to Lieutenant Commander, met the man who became her husband and remained in San Diego after leaving active duty.
Today, she and her husband enjoy retirement there and share their lives with their three grown children and their dog. Though she has been away from Mississippi for over 40 years, she says her heart remains in the Mississippi Delta. Babette wrote this memoir for her children, family and friends.
