Democratic Professionalism in Public Services

This book provides a strategy for public sector professionals to work in a more democratic way with clients, patients, students, and other public service users. This strategy can be applied by the individual public professional but will be more powerful if undertaken in partnership with other public sector professionals and other stakeholders. Trade unions and professional associations have a key role to play in this process. Democratic professionalism is not a familiar concept but it is an important one in the context of defending public services from attacks on public sector professionals. This book will contribute to sustaining the future of public services, and of the public sector professionals who deliver them.
