In accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5124.02 and the guidance in DoD Instruction 1348.33, this Manual reissues DoD 1348.33-M to implement the DoD Military Award Program policies and procedures. This Volume: (1) Provides procedures and guidance regarding creation, activation, and award of DoD service awards - campaign, expeditionary, and service (CE&S) medals. (2) Provides the basis and eligibility requirements for award of DoD CE&S medals. (3) Incorporates and cancels References (d) through (y). This Volume applies to: a. OSD, the Military Departments, the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff (JS), the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities within the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the DoD Components). b. The Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service under agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services.
