Deserteure der Wehrmacht im alpinen Raum
Editat de Ingrid Böhler, Peter Pirkerde Limba Germană Paperback – 5 mar 2023
During the German Reich one or two percent of draftees refused to serve in the German military Wehrmacht or later deserted. It was not until the early 2000s that Germany and Austria could bring themselves to rehabilitate these disobedient soldiers and to recognize them as victims of Nazism. For the first time, this present issue provides both an overview of the desertation proceedings and the prosecution practices by the military judiciary. Furthermore, it presents the structures which enabled the successful escapes in the military district XVIII by focusing on today's Austrian federal states of Tyrol and Vorarlberg as well as the Italian autonomous province of Bolzano - South Tyrol. Due to both their proximity to neutral and security promising Switzerland and the remoteness of the Alpine zones, these regions played an important role. Recent case studies also offer insights into this manifold and complex phenomenon.
