Did I Really Sign Up For This

Autor Glain Roberts-McCabe
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 6 apr 2018
Here's a #leadershiptruth: sometimes being a leader can really suck. Helping people grow and seeing them develop is hugely rewarding. Being able to influence outcomes and 'be at the table' is positively awesome. And sure, titles and salary bumps can be great but let's be real: it's not all sunshine and lollipops. Laying off people you've worked with for years is painful. Having to fire someone - even if they deserve it - is never fun. Dealing with difficult people, delivering tough feedback and 'looking in the mirror' when things go sideways is never high on the 'fun factor'. And let's not even get started with the politics! Drawing on over 25 years experience of front-line leadership plus countless hours coaching and working with leaders across levels and industries, Glain Roberts-McCabe shares straight talk on her biggest lessons learned navigating the leadership trenches. From hunting for your next gig, to reigniting your passion, to dealing with a psycho boss and everything in between, no leadership opportunity or train wreck is left unturned. So, if you've ever had days when you wondered 'did I REALLY sign up for this?!' this book is for you. Grab a latte (or a glass of wine...no judgment here) and find a dose of inspiration, motivation or kick in the ass when you need it. Remember, the world REALLY needs more great leaders. The world REALLY needs YOU.

Notă biografică

Glain Roberts-McCabe is the founder and President of The Roundtable, a company where leaders cultivate their leadership, together. The Roundtable is best known for their peer coaching and mentoring systems that help organizations break down silos, increase collaboration and accelerate business all while building leadership capability. The oldest of four children (the others are all boys), Glain was born in the UK and moved to Canada when her father got a job coaching the Canadian rugby team. You might say coaching and mentoring is in her blood. After a misguided career false start in illustration, Glain spent the majority of her twenties and thirties living the GenX career life, moving through a variety of senior leadership roles in the not-for-profit, public and private sectors. She has led across a variety of functions including public relations, marketing, membership, training, sales and spent close to a decade as a General Manager in two mid-sized businesses. Along the way, she's won a few awards, stepped on a few toes and mastered the art of the apology. A self-professed leadership junkie, Glain has read over 1,000 leadership books, written articles for publications like The Globe and Mail and Canadian Manager Magazine and spoken to audiences around the globe. In 2014, The Roundtable was awarded a Gold Award by the Canadian Awards for Training Excellence for their peer coaching and mentoring program and in 2016 they were named Best External Consulting Advisory at the Canadian HR Awards. Both experiences were kind of like winning an Oscar but without having to wear sequins. Glain believes that leadership is a privilege. Her personal mission is to inspire leaders to connect to their bigger purpose and passion so that work can be more fun and life can be more fulfilling.
