A detailed and well-illustrated report of over 400 abstract figurative carvings from the late Magdelenian site of Gonnersdorf in Bavaria which have been interpreted as outline figures of girls or women. The study identifies and describes in some detail the twelve types of female figure depicted, the grouping of figures, the association with animal figures and considers the religious and social context of the carvings at Gonnersdorf and in other decorated caves.
