Discoveries in the Judaean Desert: Volume XXIV. Wadi Daliyeh I: The Wadi Daliyeh Seal Impressions: Discoveries in the Judaean Desert, cartea XXIV

Autor Mary Joan Winn Leith
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 6 aug 1997
The Wadi ed-Daliyeh seal impressions are clay sealings originally affixed to the Samaria Papyri (legal documents in the Aramaic language drawn up in the city of Samaria and securely dated to the mid-fourth century BCE). The images on these sealings belong to the Greek, Achaemenid Persian, and West Semitic artistic traditions. Because the sealings derive largely from the signet rings and stamps of the wealthy Samarian men and women mentioned in the papyri, they provide a rare glimpse of the cultural influences to which one area of Palestine was exposed before the coming of Alexander. This volume presents a catalogue and analysis of the legible sealings and two gold rings in the collection of the Rockefeller Museum, Jerusalem.

Recenzii

A work of the highest academic standards ... I would like to endorse fully the opinion given by W.E. Aufrecht (CBQ 61 [1999]: 755): "It is an extraordinary work of erudition and scholarship; one that informs many fields of inquiry, not the least of which are Greek, Persian, Phoenician, and Jewish history and culture with their manifold interrelationships."
The editors are to be congratulated on both their careful work and the speed with which they have produced this fine volume.
This interesting monograph ... The production and printing of the book is fully up to the highest standards of the Clarendon Press, with excellent illustrations ... a catalogue for which all students of glyptics will continue to be grateful.
The volume is attractively presented and is a must for research libraries and specialists.
