سـيرة دلال وكمال حكاية شعبية عربية (مصورة) من القرن الـسابع عشر الميلادي تؤكد على مساحات الالتقاء بين التاريخ والأدب والفن ، إذ شكلت مرآة حقيقية للتاريخ الاجتماعي، وأكدت علىٰ أهمية الحكاية والنادرة في خدمة التاريخ بوصفها أدلة وأسانيد ووثائق دامغة تعين المؤرخ القادر علىٰ استنطاقها والنفاذ من خلالها إلىٰ الحركة المضمَرة في هذه الأنساق الشعبية، مما يوسع - بلا شك - من آفاق البحث التاريخي، ومن ثم إيجاد سُبل جديدة للوصول إلىٰ المعرفة التاريخية، وأكدت على بيان أهمية الذهنيات، من حيث كونها أنسب الوسائل لملامسة صدى حضور التاريخ في الحاضر. والراوي في الحكاية يخاطب جمهوره بما يحب أن يسمع وفي مصطلحات يفهمها ، في إطار من القيم والأخلاقيات التي يعتنقها الجمهور المتلقي ويلتزم بها. من ناحية أخرى ، نجد الحكاية الشعبية تختار شخصا تاريخيا وتعيد صياغته في إطار شعبي يلبي حاجات الجماعة ويفسر التاريخ لصالح الناس ، صناع التاريخ الحقيقيين. فالتاريخ تصنعه الشعوب ويسرقه الحكام منذ أقدم العصور ، وتشهد بهذا سجلات الملوك والحكام وكتابات المؤرخين الذين عاشوا في كنفهم ، أو بالقرب منهم.

Sīrat Dalāl wa-Kamāl is an (illustrated) folktale from the 17th century that highlights the intersections between history, literature, and art. The narrator speaks to the audience in a way that resonates with what they like to hear, using terminology they understand, all within a framework of values and ethics that the audience adheres to. On the other hand, the folk tale selects a historical figure and reinterprets them within a popular context that meets the needs of the community and explains history in favor of the people—the true makers of history. History is made by the people and stolen by rulers from ancient times, as documented in the records of kings and rulers, and in the writings of historians who lived under their rule or close to them.
