Do You Believe in Magic? It is 1952 and for the first 12 years of her life, Missy Finn has had to put up with having a body that failed to work properly in many ways - however, things are about to change. On the morning of her 13th birthday, Missy is handed an unusual gift from her father, a shard of iridescent crystal, and the moment her skin makes contact with it, something incredible starts to happen. The crystal, it later transpires, had been dug up long ago by her late Grandfather, in Norway, long before Missy was born and it is the crystal itself that holds the key to unlocking a cure for her mysterious condition. When the crystal begins to throb, like a beating heart in her hands, Missy almost drops it but something compels her to keep hold of it, to discover what will happen next and from then on her birthday starts to get weirder and weirder. She suddenly starts seeing all manner of strange images in her mind but the weirdness doesn't end there, for later in the day, two elves zoom into the lives, quite literally, of not only Missy but her parents too. Before the Finn family have a chance to ponder just what the heck is going on, the elves transport them to Vlissingen, their ethereal home, in the hope that they will be able to help them rid their land of a dark magician named, Gvooorat, whose terrible deeds have not only affected Missy and the elves themselves, but thousands of other innocent ethereals too. Missy and her parents, are soon joined by Zach, a troubled 15 year-old orphan boy from present day Los Angeles, when he is inadvertently pulled into Vlissingen through an inter-dimensional vortex. Do You Believe in Magic? is a careful blend of humour and sadness, love and hate, multiple dimensions and several time lines that all combine to create the mayhem that erupts from the ethereal realm, but above all, at its chore, Do You Believe in Magic? is a story about love and self-belief and how love has the power to destroy evil when it truly comes from the heart.
