What Tillich presents in his lecture under the traditional notion of dogmatics can be classified as philosophical theology. It is centred on Christ as the "breakthrough of complete and perfect revelation". The Prolegomena are followed by the doctrine of creation and the doctrine of salvation. The doctrine of the consummation of the world is not completed. The edition is a complete revision of the text published by Werner Schüßler in 1986 under the title "Marburg dogmatics".
