He and his wife, Dr. Charlene Akenhead, have bred and trained Shepherds and Malamutes. Since 1995, Jim operated Signature K-9 Training & Behavior LLC in northeastern Ohio. He offered a variety of group classes including those for reactive dogs. For many, Signature K-9 became a last resort for difficult dogs. Since 2018 Jim has lived in Virginia.
