Descriere
After a cataclysmic flood submerges half the world underwater, cannibalistic gangs and encampments become a constant threat to the dry lands. Liv and her precocious three-year-old son Milo are some of the lucky ones who have survived. After their helicopter crashes in the America midwest, an area untouched by the floods, they find themselves alone in a wooded mountain range with nothing except a few tools salvaged from the explosion. Winter is coming, and Milo needs clothes, food, and a sense of normalcy. Ash blows from the west and the threat of more floods creeps in from the east. Marauders sweep the drylands looking for whatever resources they can pillage. Patrollers send their drones to hunt down free people for their labor camps. The wild landscape proves to be a constant source of danger itself. Plus, the challenges of toddlerhood are always present—tantrums, hunger, and potty training, to name a few. Liv's destination is south—Sweet Gum, Tennessee—a remote town halfway down the Appalachians. They have nothing; just a backpack to carry Milo in, a few cans of beans, some extra clothes, Milo's growing collection of sticks—and their unconditional love for one another.
As they enter a perilous winter, Liv and Milo journey into the unknown and cross paths with others who are adrift and struggling to survive, in addition to a lonesome horse looking for a loving family. Liv will do anything to keep Milo alive and away from the corrupt encampments, even if that means burning down the little remains of civilization itself. She's already learned that nothing else matters except Milo—the real challenge will be convincing herself that she's worthy of love too. Dry Lands is a tense, big-hearted journey that shows the grit of humanness, motherhood, and the burning sacrifices we make for our children.

Recenzii
A testament to the power of hope and motherhood in the worst of situations.
Liv’s daily battle against starvation and predators, human and otherwise, is visceral, and—thanks to Martins’ gift for characterization—her evolution feels earned as she gradually adapts her ethics to keep Milo alive at all costs. The tenacious, well-shaded heroine elevates this above many similar efforts.
