It feels as though World War I could come to an end any day now, and the Canadian unit, the Bears and Eagles, who call themselves simply, The Regiment, are chomping at the bit to get overseas and do their part.

Russia is in the midst of postrevolutionary chaos and descending into civil war. The Turks and Germans are still invading Palestine. And the German legions have Europe in complete disarray. Finally, after much political reluctance, Canada deploys The Regiment to Palestine to support the allied efforts there.
