Mary Abbott Hess, the 1990–91 President of the American Dietetic Association, is one of the country′s leading authorities on diet, health, and nutrition.

Anne Elise Hunt is a home economist, writer, and former food editor at Cuisine magazine. Cofounders of Hess and Hunt, Inc., Nutrition Communications, they are the authors of Pickles & Ice Cream (an earlier edition of this book) and A Healthy Head Start: The Worry–Free Guide to Feeding Young Children.
