Echoes of Yesterday

Autor Poncelet, Duane
en Limba Engleză Paperback
How does one write an intriguing book description?

I suppose one could say...

cue movie voiceover] Imagine a world where everyone is addicted to technology... People no longer speak to one another. Payments are made with the swipe of a hand. Nothing is more valuable than being "liked." Everybody knows everything about everyone by virtue of their profile. And all of it is monitored and safely stored in a database. Such is life for the Citizens of Story City. But it doesn't bother them, in fact, they seem to enjoy it and the peace of mind that comes with such innocuous surveillance. Contrast this reality with the citizens of Storyville who think it's all a bunch of silly nonsense, and can't wait to prove it at the annual Novelty Games. One will fall. One will triumph. Who will it be this year?

Or maybe...

A tale of two small towns divided by a lone river... One embraces and adores technology, the other is hesitant and skeptical, a modern band of Luddites. Follow one man's journey to the heart of their cultures, meet a sage-musician with a peculiar suspicion of Carnival Ringmasters virtually operating reality, and if you're not afraid to ask questions, gather insight as to which side of the river you're standing on. If exploration of the Past can illuminate the Present, then perhaps by doing so we could envision a brighter Future. Shed in a different light: If we hear the echoes of yesterday and acknowledge their significance in our voices today, perhaps we can sing the joyous songs of tomorrow together in harmony. Too much? Cripes. Alright. Well, the point is if we all chose to embark on that journey, maybe, just maybe we could arrive at the answer to the quintessential Question of Our Time: To Post or not to Post?

Or... I could simply be honest.

I majored in English Literature and minored in Philosophy. I wrote Echoes of Yesterday to help pay off my student loans. For the price of a case of beer, you can assist in the melting of that iceberg. I dig music and have written many songs over the years, so I wrote a story about a band and recorded their songs so you can actually hear the music instead of just imagine what it sounds like. Echoes of Yesterday is a philosophical novel. It is heavily driven by dialogue (just as Life is heavily driven by dialogue), and it largely focuses on our collective obsession with ahem, borderline addiction to] digital technology. Echoes of Yesterday is an exploration of the Self. The journey is yours to take. How much technology is too much? Is it helping or hurting us? Is it a virtue or a vice? Are we really more connected or are we losing sight of what makes us Human amid endless streams of distraction and desire? Is it ironic that you're reading this online? It is... isn't it? So you see, while we're virtually surrounded by all the answers, it really depends on the questions you ask. As we collectively wade through new torrents of digital reality, will we drown in the current? Should we dwell on the shores of our traditional past or bank on the unknowns of our future? Is there a way to bridge the gap? Does it even matter? It's up to each individual to decide. It's entirely up to you. So now the real question is: ARE YOU WILLING TO ASK?
