Notă biografică
Tony Whitten is an internationally renowned biodiversity specialist with the World Bank in Washington DC. He is the mentor of The Ecology of Indonesia series and is also author of The Ecology of Java & Bali. The photographs in the colour plate section of The Ecology of Sumatra are by Tony Whitten. Sengli J Damanik was born in 1942 in Haranggaol, North Sumatra. He began studying at the University of North Sumatra (USU) in 1962, later specialising in agronomy. He obtained his doctorate from Bogor Agricultural University in 1989 and is now Professor of Agriculture at the University of North Sumatra and Rector of Simalungan University. Jazanul Anwar was born in 1935 in Jakarta. He began his medical training at the University of North Sumatra in 1955. In 1967 he moved to the University of Gottingen, Germany, and in 1970 was awarded his doctorate.
